Trader fined Dh5,000 for insulting father-in-law in Dubai

Dubai - The 40-year-old Syrian trader was fined for insulting two men and verbally abusing their families as well.

A trader accused of threatening two men, including his father-in-law, that he would get rid of them no matter what and even if it would cost him $1 million, has been cleared of blackmail and making criminal threats charges.
However, the Court of First Instance fined the 40-year-old Syrian trader Dh5,000 for insulting the two men and verbally abusing their families as well.
The case dates back to January 4. A complaint was filed at Bur Dubai police station.
The trader wanted one of the two complainants to cede the companies registered in his name in the UAE.
The first complainant, a 36-year-old Syrian businessman, said the incident happened early this year at a hotel. "The other complainant and I were with the defendant at a hotel in Downtown Dubai in the evening when he threatened he would get rid of us. He said he would kill us even if it would cost him $1 million."
He told the prosecutor that the accused also verbally abused their family members. "He threatened me into relinquishing all the companies that are registered in my name in the UAE."
The other 63-year-old Syrian complainant, a manager, said that the defendant made criminal threats against them while verbally abusing their family members.
A Sudanese hotel security guard, 40, said the first complainant came to him seeking his help in a problem he was having with another man at the terrace.
"I could hear the accused cursing and speaking loudly. But I could not understand what the problem was."
The witness added: "The second complainant told me the defendant was his son-in-law and that he had a bad temper. I did not want to intervene and preferred to keep away as it was a family disagreement."
