Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), in a bid to meet the pressing demand on public buses, is to add 10 buses worth Dh6 million, to its intercity bus fleet.
Abdul Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, Director of Transport Affairs, SRTA, on Monday said the 10 new buses, which will join services within days, are all spacious, 45-seated and air-conditioned.
"As such, 39 new buses, worth Dh30 million, have been added to service this year so far, and these have increased the total intercity bus fleet of Sharjah RTA to 69 coaches."
The 39 public buses, connecting the emirate of Sharjah with other emirates, include 18 Volvo coaches and 21 others with special standards that go with the latest international benchmarks, he added.
Al Jarwan said all intercity public buses start from three major stations at Al Jubail and Al Rolla areas, as well as the Sharjah International Airport. "All coaches are equipped with LCD screens that display details on the trip and route."
Khalid Al Khayal, manager of intercity transport, said starting October, SRTA will add more bus stops on intercity routes in collaboration with the bodies concerned in other emirates, he said.
