His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, will attend tomorrow (Monday) the opening ceremony of the sixth annual Pink Caravan, that sees the participation of more than 100 male and female riders of various nationalities.
The official ceremony will also be attended by prominent local, regional and international figures, namely,Dr Cary Adams, CEO Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and Past Chair, NCD Alliance Steering Group; Katie Dain, Executive Director, NCD Alliance, UK; HE Ameera BinKaram, President of the Board of Directors, Friends of Cancer Patients (FoCP); and a number of governmental bodies representatives and directors, Pink Caravan ambassadors and media personnel.
The Pink Caravan Ride is under the patronage and support of Her Highness Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, Founder and Royal Patron of the Friends of Cancer Patients (FoCP), International Ambassador of the World Cancer Declaration for Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer for UICC. The "Soldiers of Pink Hope" ride will kick off on Monday, March 7 from Sharjah, and will wrap up on March 17 in Abu Dhabi, travelling across all seven emirates, raising awareness about breast cancer and offering free breast cancer screenings across the UAE.
Over the past 5 years, Pink Caravan has offered breast cancer screenings to 36,332 women and men of various nationalities and ages in the UAE. Of these, 10,839 cases were referred for mammogram screenings, and 1,362 people were referred for ultrasound, while 27 cases of breast cancer have been detected. It provided support and treatment for 30 patients with breast cancer, with a total cost of Dh7.5 million.
