To prevent power outage in residential, commercial and industrial during summer, the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) has conducted maintenance services for 2,825 distribution plants and power networks in 15 areas.
These areas include Al Nahda, Al Khalidiyah, Al Mamzar, Al Gubaiba, Al Shahba, Samnan, Al Majaz, Al Nasseriya and industrial areas.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Sewa chairman Dr. Rashid Al Leem said: "Sewa is working to improve power networks and provide best services based on international standards to ensure stability for residents in Sharjah."
He explained that Sewa has prepared plans for periodical maintenance which starts from October and ends in April. The plans include maintenance of power transformers and distribution plants in the entire emirate to ensure quality in order to prevent power outage during summer and the holy month of Ramadan.
Dr. Al Leem also said that maintenance includes replacing cables and transformers with new ones in areas that usually experience power outage during summer.
He pointed out that Sewa is also working on improving technical operations which monitor networks in the entire emirate to detect the faults in order to address them in a short time.
Ahmed Al Haniyami, Director of Maintenance department in Sewa said that 2000 plants and transformers have been provided with maintenance in all 15 areas as part of power outage preventive maintenance work programme. This programme is aimed at extending the expiration period of the plants, increasing production and preventing power outage.
Yousef Abdul Rahman, director, Nasiriya maintenance centre, said 90 plants and transformers in old residential areas have been provided with best maintenance services.
