A sergeant is facing a forgery charge in the Court of First Instance for allegedly falsifying the details in a social status proof document issued by the Dubai Courts.
The 43-year-old Emirati, M.B., allegedly falsely claimed in the document that he never married since his divorce on June 12, 2001.
However, and according to a marriage document issued from the Personal Status Court, it was known that he was married on January 7, 2004.Two other Emirati officers, including a sergeant, 57, and a corporal, 35, are both being charged with aiding and abetting M.B., by helping him get the document-proof of social status. They are believed to have both showed up in front of the Personal Status judge and stood witnesses to the content of that document that he did not marry since his divorce.
The case dates back to November 23, 2014.
A 40-year-old Emirati housewife said that she is M.B.'s divorcee and that she has the legal custody of their children.
But she claimed that M.B. was very often seeking trouble with her by bringing police officers to her residence place.
"His aim was to take the custody from me. It was like that until he indeed filed a lawsuit at the Shariah Court to claim the custody".
In that lawsuit proceedings, the housewife said that she was surprised to see he had testified in front of the Personal Status Court with two witnesses in order to get a social status certificate. The certificate stated that he did not get married after their divorce in 2001, which was not true. She claimed in the investigation that he was married.
A female employee at the Personal Status Court said that she remembered M.B. and the other two men as she took their personal details before they walked in the judge's office for a certificate stating that he was still divorced.
The case file includes a marriage certificate of M.B. with another Emirati woman in January 2004.
It also includes the social status proof request document signed by M.B. and the other defendants.
A social status certificate, issued from the Personal Status Court, was also in the file. It states that M.B. was still single following his divorce from his wife in 2001. A marriage certificate in the same file says otherwise.
The hearing has been adjourned to Februar25.
