The Ajman Police have nabbed two scamsters - both Asians - who duped 26 Bangladeshi job seekers by falsely claiming to be owners of a recruitment firm.
The duo brought the Bangladeshis on tourist visas after extracting huge amounts of money from them.
Lt. Col. Saeed Khalifa Al-Ketbi, head of the comprehensive city police station, told Khaleej Times that a Bangladeshi and a Pakistani man - who claimed themselves to be owners of a fictitious recruitment company - brought the victims from their home country on tourist visas after assuring them jobs in South Africa after a short stay in the UAE.
The duo took them to Ajman and left them stranded - without food or shelter.
The job seekers approached the Al Madina police station and explained the cops their plight, after which the case was taken up by the community police department.
The department swung into action and came to the aid of the 26 marooned men.
First, the police made arrangements for accommodation of the victims, and also took care of their food during their stay.
The department also coordinated with the charity organisations in Ajman to get travel tickets and money for the victims while ensuring their safe return to Bangladesh.
The police launched an investigation and arrested the duo from one of their whereabouts.
After interrogation, the two confessed to having committed the scam.
They admitted that they received a huge amount from the job seekers and left them to fend for themselves in an open area in the city.
Based on their confession, the two scamsters were referred to the public prosecution for legal action.
