With Dubai airports expected to get busier in the coming weeks, the emirate and its service providers have pulled out all stops to ensure travellers feel safe throughout their journey.
Expats stranded abroad have been allowed to fly back into the country, while residents and citizens are now permitted to travel to some destinations overseas. From July 7, Dubai airports will start welcoming back tourists.
Airport service provider dnata on Tuesday assured that all safety protocols have been put in place at the two airports of Dubai.
In fact, their experts have been developing and implementing precautionary measures since the Covid-19 outbreak began, it said in a statement.
Protective barriers have been put up at the airports' check-in desks, and waiting areas have been modified to help passengers observe social distancing.
The boarding process is facilitated by agents who wear the required PPE and ensure that passengers board in small numbers. Boarding gates are deep-cleaned and disinfected after the boarding of every flight.
Dnata has also run sterilisation drives, introduced new personal protective measures, and further improved aircraft cleaning services.
In May, it completed a mass disinfection programme of all ground support equipment (GSE) - where more than 11,500 buses, passenger steps, baggage dollies, and pushback tractors were sanitised at the airports.
In cleaning aircraft cabins, dnata has been using a stronger disinfectant, which has been proven safe and effective in killing germs.
The new extensive cleaning process also includes wiping down all surfaces - from windows, tray tables, seatback screens, armrests, seats, in-seat controls, panels, air vents and overhead lockers in the cabin to lavatories, galleys and crew rest areas.
Steve Allen, divisional senior vice-president for UAE airport operations and travel at dnata, said: "The impact of Covid-19 on the aviation, travel and tourism industries has been rapid and significant. We are all in this together and can only overcome the challenges if we join forces with our partners and put the health and safety of people at the heart of everything we do."
Including Dubai International, dnata offers ground handling, cargo and catering services at more than 120 airports globally.
