Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, director of the department, said all active outlets shall abide by this discount across Fujairah. "The 50 per cent discount would continue all over the holy month."
He added that the discount campaign shall be launched a week before the advent of Ramadan to avoid overcrowding.
"All the 75 outlets across the eastern coast have been urged to secure the basic goods and food items needed over the holy month."
Each outlet shall secure two food baskets and each will contain 20 to 25 basic foods like rice, oil, sugar, juice, and other Ramadan- related stuff, he pointed out. The baskets shall be available against Dh100 to Dh200, he said.
"The department spares no effort to ease people's suffering and provide all the food items needed in Ramadan at affordable prices."
He urged all the people nationwide to be part of the monitoring customer initiative to track changes in prices and report any breaches to the ministry.
"This drive has proved fruitful in curbing such violations," he said, while adding that all outlets have been instructed to install screens to display the price of all the goods."
