While everything in the world is slowly becoming digitised, and cordless devices are all the rage, wires and cables are still required in many applications, with a notable role in industrial uses.
Residential as well as commercial outlets are all fitted with single and multiconductor connections that carry sufficient electricity according to various voltage requirements.
Safety is of utmost importance when working with wires and cables. Any faulty materials used can lead to disastrous situations such as fires or electrocution, adding to loss of life and property damage.
To curb this, there are a number of organisations in the UAE such as the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA) that regulate and enforce top-notch standards. ESMA further features a system where it assures the competency of testing and calibration laboratories, certification and inspection bodies in the UAE.
It ensures that all local and international manufactured products are committed to using high-quality materials and meet universally recognised customs.
Keeping up with growing security concerns, people who are not involved in the cabling business also receive basic training from specialists so they can react and respond better to emergency situations. Road shows and corporate visits have successfully reduced the number of causalities in the past years, while public campaigns helped educate residents on the dangers of leaving children and pets unattended near wires and cables.
It further encourages people to choose quality over quantity, where spending on fire and water-resistant types of cables are a guaranteed investment for safety.
All cabling companies in the UAE now follow stringent regulations to ensure nothing less than the best quality materials are used in various applications.
There is no dearth when it comes to wire applications and it plays an essential role in complementing smart infrastructures, as demonstrated by UAE-based organisation Ducab, which deals with cabling products for energy, construction and other industry specialities.
The Office of the Future, a first-of-its-kind 3-D printed structure set in Emirates Towers that was recently launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is fitted with 10 kilometres of cables and wires.
Among these cables are FlamBICC fire-resistant cables approved by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB), Tuff DuFlex heat-resistant flexible cables, and the Ducab Connect range of cable accessories.
As an incubator of innovation and future technology, it adheres to global standards and is dedicated to shaping the future of the country with locally manufactured cables and powering projects.
With the ever-increasing importance of wires and cables, the UAE hosts annual exhibitions and conferences dedicated to the commodities, where experts from all over the world come onto one platform to share concepts and discuss opportunities to raise the trade potential of their respective nations.
