Abu Dhabi Police issued a statement on the eve of Eid Al Adha urging motorists to abide by traffic rules and regulations during holidays and avoid accidents.
Brigadier Mohammad Dahi Al Humairi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department, urged motorists not to be preoccupied with answering Eid greeting messages and phone calls while driving. He urged parents not to allow teenagers - without license, to drive vehicles or allow them to carry out dangerous stunts on the road.
Al Humairi reminded motorists to avoid speeding not just on main roads but internal ones too.
"Do not exceed the speed limit," he warned. "Make sure to check tyres before you leave on long journeys."
Al Humairi noted that police patrols have been increased near mosques, malls, markets, parks and other public places.
"This is to provide all kind of support and fastest response," he said.
Among many things, he reminded elders in the family to pay attention to children inside the vehicle.
"Make way for ambulance, civil defence, police and official vehicles. Leave a safe distance between vehicles, give pedestrians a priority, use seat belts and pay attention to the movements of children inside the vehicle," Al Humairi said and made a note about the importance of a child seat.
