A massive fire broke out in a petrochemical factory in Umm Al Quwain late on Saturday. The blaze was reported from the Umm Al Thaub industrial area. 
The blaze was so massive that Major-General Jassim Al Marzouqi, director-general of the UAQ civil defence department, personally visited the site to supervise the firefighting operation. The fire was reported around 7pm.
The factory was gutted in the fire, said UAQ civil defence sources. Investigations are on to identify the reasons behind the fire, they said. "The case has been referred to the legal authorities concerned for further investigation."
