The Boulevard in Muweilah commercial area in Sharjah is now a pre-paid public parking zone. 
The Sharjah Municipality has installed 22 parking meters to cover 1,130 parking lots which have already started operation since February 25. The parking charges will apply from 8:00am to 10:00pm on normal days.
Thabet Salim Al Taraifi, Director-General of Sharjah Municipality, said that the civic body was keen to ensure the availability of parking spaces for the residents as well as visitors and to prevent misuse of these lots by others. The municipality has installed the necessary payment devices for availing of parking in the area.
He explained that the municipality decided to include Muweilah area in the pre-paid public parking zone as it is witnessing rapid growth and has become a hub for commercial projects.
The visitors and residents have been voicing their grouse about lack of parking space in the area, where shops offering various services, and food outlets have proliferated. The municipality is also keen to ensure convenience for the people by making the parking space available all the time, so that they don't have to waste time over searching for a place to park their vehicles.
Khalid bin Falah Al Suwaidi, Assistant General Manager for Customer Services at Sharjah Municipality, said that the Department of Public Parking has deployed a special team to monitor all those who misuse the parking spaces and take action against the violators. He added the users can pay for parking through the devices installed by the municipality or text messages round-the-clock.
Ali Abu Gazain, another official, said that the municipality has installed 10 devices on the main road and 12 on the internal road to provide prepaid parking tickets for vehicles in the area. It has also installed 33 signages to direct the motorists to these parking spaces and devices.
