Residents of Ajman and Umm Al Quwain may now breathe a sigh of relief as the problem of water cut has come to an end with a newly-operated water supply line between the two emirates.
The Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) has started operating the new strategic water line between Ajman and Umm Al Quwain since the end of March this year, according to a top official.
Mohammed Saleh, Director General of the Authority said that the new line is made up of 800mm (in diameter) flexible iron pipes.
The 13km long water line costs Dh20 million. Up to 120,000 consumers are to benefit from the new water line which is to fully cover the needs of both the emirates in case of emergency situations, Saleh underlined.
"The new line, which is a part of FEWA's strategic plans, is expected to significantly decrease the load on the main stations of the authority which will provide better services and meet the timely needs of all the areas as well", he added.
Elaborating, Saleh said that the Federal Electricity and Water Authority carried out a number of key water development projects in the emirates of Ajman and Umm Al Quwain, last year.
"We have also finished the studies needed for a number of new projects to be carried out in the emirates of Ajman and Umm Al Quwain in the upcoming two years to boost the performance of operations."
Sherif Al Wakeel, a resident of Ajman, said that the flow of water gets weak and even gets cut sometimes during summer because of the overload. "However, this will be history with the new strategic line which is meant to secure the needs of the two emirates", Sherif said.
