A man has been charged with murder after he allegedly fatally stabbed his friend in the neck with scissors. The 26-year-old Pakistani man - a student - killed the Emirati, in his thirties, in his villa following an argument on August 5, last year.
In the Court of First Instance, he denied a murder charge claiming he did not mean to kill the victim but only wanted to scare him off.
However, during investigation, the crime scene investigation officers found no signs of mess or struggle in the kitchen where the stabbing took place.
The forensic report showed that the death was caused by the deep stabbing that cut through the blood vessels and damaged the victim's brain.
A 39-year-old Filipina maid said the incident happened after the defendant told her to bring his gym bag around 5pm. "He wanted to go with the victim to the gym. However, about ten minutes later, I heard the victim screaming the defendant's name. I looked through the glass door and saw he was heavily bleeding from the neck. I ran out through the kitchen's back door and went to the defendant's uncle and told him. I then locked myself up in my room."
A police lieutenant said a stabbing incident was reported in Umm Al Sheif area in Dubai. "We learned that the defendant had invited the victim and another Emirati friend over for some alcoholic drinks."
According to the defendant's account, the victim wanted to pick up a fight so he chased the other friend to his car but the latter drove off. He then had a confrontation with the defendant in front yard of the villa, following which he had to run inside and lock the main door. The victim tried to enter through the kitchen window and the fight caused a mess in the kitchen.
The defendant took a pair of scissors and stabbed the victim in the neck." The accused told the police he then threatened the victim that he would call the police if he tried to enter the place.
The victim collapsed in front of passers-by in the villa's yard. The accused fled the spot but the police nabbed him two days later.
A police captain, who reconstructed the crime scene, said there were splatters of blood outside the main door. "The splatters showed the victim walked for some time before he fell down unconscious. There was no mess in the kitchen, contrary to the defendant's statement. The scissors used in the crime was seized near the kitchen. No alcohol bottles were found in the villa and the defendant had a knee injury."
At the time when the forensic expert examined the victim, the Emirati man was in coma with total brain damage while receiving intensive care at the hospital. He was in a critical condition and was being followed up by many specialised doctors.
