A woman, who was accused of cheating an Emirati by selling him a pet at a high price after claiming it to be of a popular breed through online ads, has been cleared of the charge.
Al Dhafra Court of First Instance acquitted the Arab woman after it was found out that she was innocent and was selling the animals including dogs and cats on behalf of her employer.
Court documents stated that an Emirati customer had contacted the woman after seeing an advertisement for selling a beautiful cat. The woman agreed to sell the pet to the Emirati for Dh8,000, which he transferred to her bank account and waited for her to deliver the cat.
And when the customer received the pet, the man said he found out that it was very ill and needed urgent treatment.
The customer also noted that the cat that was sent to him wasn't the beautiful and the well-known breed that he had requested online. The Emirati said the woman had posted the picture of a beautiful pet but instead delivered to him a different one, which was in a bad health condition.
The man then complained to the authorities after efforts to reach the seller through her online contacts failed.
Prosecutors had charged the Arab woman with cheating people online.
In the court, the woman denied the charge, stressing that she was only an employee of the firm dealing in pets and that her job was only to solicit for customers and not to deliver the pets. She told the court that she had received the Dh8,000 transferred by the customer to her bank account on behalf of her boss because their official bank account had some problem.
The woman said that she had handed over the cash to her employer and that she had no idea that the pet delivered to the customer was not the one in the advertisement. And after hearing the case, the judge decided to acquit the woman of the charge.
It wasn't clear in court whether the charge was instead transferred to the firm selling the pets.
