A young man in Abu Dhabi, who was found guilty of human trafficking and running a brothel, has been jailed for five years.
According to court documents, the Arab man brought women from different countries to the UAE on visit visas. He then forced them into having sex with other men for cash. Prosecutors said the man kept the women in an apartment.
He would then remit the proceeds from the illegal business to his accomplices. He had declared a small perfumes business as the source of his income to the remittance firms.
The police initiated an investigation as they were not convinced of his source of income. Prosecutors said the convict had remitted Dh300,000 in 119 transactions to people in six Arab countries in 30 months.
The young man had denied the charges throughout his trial.
The Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance had earlier cleared him of the charges but the prosecutors appealed the verdict.
