A 38-year-old expatriate, caught with drugs at the Dubai airport, has been ordered by the Court of First Instance to pay a Dh5,000 fine.
The Cameroon national, working as an electrician, has been detained since his arrival at the Dubai International Airport on August 18. He denied the charge in court.
He was found guilty of the charge of smuggling of drugs and will be deported.
A customs inspector said he was on duty at the Arrival Hall of the Dubai airport. "Other inspectors at the internal section had doubts about the defendant's luggage. When I searched his bag, I found a large quantity of tramadol pills carefully hidden in bags of food."
The traveller was then referred to the Anti-Narcotics General Directorate.
According to the Dubai police crime lab report, as many as 765 tramadol pills were seized from the accused.
