A European woman was killed in a road accident on Ras Al Khaimah's Filya road, after succumbing to fatal injuries and fractures she received all over her body, mainly to her head.
Lt-Col Marwan Jakkah, manager of media and public relations with the RAK police, late on Wednesday told Khaleej Times that the accident was due to speeding and not paying attention to the road.
"The victim was travelling along with another European woman in a car driven by a young Arab man when he lost control over the steering wheel all of a sudden, veered off the road, and rammed into a sign board on the Filya road."
The Central Operations Room, having been alerted of the mishap, dispatched traffic patrols, medics, rescue teams and an ambulance to the site in a record time, he added.
"One of the women died on the spot whereas the second woman sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Saqr Hospital owing to her critical and unstable condition."
The driver of the car, a young man from a Gulf country, also received moderate injuries due to the impact of the accident as the car he was driving turned over several times before resting on the side of the road, Lt-Col Jakkah explained.
"The young man was admitted to the intensive care unit as well, and his condition is stable," he stated, noting that the case of the accident has been referred to traffic prosecution for legal action.
"All drivers are urged to observe traffic  rules and regulations for their safety and the safety of others on the road."
