A five-year-old Emirati boy sustained serious injuries after he fell off a quad bike being run by his 10-year-old sister at Awafi area in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah on Friday.
On being alerted of the accident, the central operations room of the Ras Al Khaimah Police immediately dispatched a traffic patrol, a national ambulance, paramedics, and rescue teams to the site.
Investigations showed that the little boy was neither wearing a helmet nor was he safely secured on the quad bike, according to informed sources.
"His sister was speeding and her brother could not hold on tight enough and fell off the quad bike."
The ambulance and paramedics deployed provided him with the necessary first aid at the site, they added.
The injured boy was shifted to the Saqr hospital. Medical sources with the hospital said that the boy had suffered a deep cut on the head, fractured skull bones and internal and external bleeding.
Late in December last year, a 15-year-old Emirati teenager suffered injuries and fractures all over his body after the quad bike he was riding flipped over several times in Ras Al Khaimah.
Muhammad Saleh, an eye witness, said he was close to the site, and saw the boy fall off the quad bike.
"We instantly called the RAK Police operations room for help," he said. Many kids have been recently seen riding these quad bikes and motorbikes without wearing helmets or taking any precautionary measures.
