Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police's Criminal Investigation Affairs department (CID) attended a panel discussion on crime reduction and prevention, held at the General Directorate of Criminal Evidence and Criminology.
The panel discussed innovative, forward-looking ideas and initiatives aimed at finding realistic solutions to the challenges faced by police in carrying out security work. It also aimed at achieving Dubai Police's strategic objectives for 2016-21 and long-term vision for 2030.
Taking a future-forward approach to crime solving, the force is keen to face constantly shifting challenges by continuosly following strategic modernisation and development programmes, as well as administrative processes, in line with the fourth generation of government excellence.
The panel also focused on the early detection of challenges, and addressing, confronting and containing crises before they escalated. Specialised cadres have to be trained in prevention and crime reduction, and also keep abreast of technological developments and the complexities surrounding the world of crime, it noted. This is imperative since criminal acts are no longer carried out using traditional tools and methods, Major-General Al Mansouri pointed out.
Colonel Said Lootah, director of the Crime Prevention Department, said it was important to hold such dialogues, in order to come up with initiatives and recommendations to support crime prevention and reduction. He noted that the meeting included five main axes: security teams, security studies, criminal awareness, internal and external partners, and methodologies.
The session was moderated by Lieutenant Colonel Rashid Mohammed Al Shehhi, acting director of Bur Dubai Police Station, discussing the "field security teams". It also discussed academic courses in crime prevention, as an accredited specialisation for officers to study.
Lt Col Abdullah Mohammed Abdullah of CID moderated the role of each police department in the crime prevention and reduction process; Colonel Omar Mohammed bin Hammad, deputy director of the Department of Economic Crimes, chaired the external partners session on their role in reducing crimes. The methodological approach to crime prevention was chaired by Lt Col Abdullah Saeed Al Shamsi of Quality Management.
