Dubai Police have arrested a gang of robbers who attacked a jewellery shop and made away with Dh3 million worth of gold.
The five members of the gang wore masks as they raided the jewellery shop located in International City area.
The Criminal Investigation Department received a complaint and arrested the unidentified robbers within 48 hours. The stolen gold has been recovered.
Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said Al Rashidiya police station received a complaint last Wednesday at about 10am that a gang attacked the shop's employees using pepper spray before locking them in the bathroom and stealing Dh3million worth of gold.
The group then dispersed in different locations to mislead the police after dividing the booty among themselves.
Al Mansouri pointed out that the shop had jewellery worth about Dh60 million when it was raided. He said the method used in planning and executing the robbery suggested that the robbers were professionals specialized in such crimes.
He explained that a police team was immediately formed. Criminal Investigation patrols were fanned out to the ports to prevent the accused from fleeing the country.

The team found that the five masked men were of Asian nationality. Three of them hid in the border areas of Al Ain, while the other two were in the Ruwais area of Abu Dhabi.
After setting up the plan, the police team swooped on the gang members and arrested them, while foiling their plan to escape with the stolen jewellery.
