The Dubai Police have launched a campaign to spread awareness among the motorists about the importance of giving way for emergency vehicles.

Under the patronage of Lt.-Gen. Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, the Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, the campaign was launched in collaboration with the Dubai Ambulance Services, the Dubai Civil Defence, the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai and the Juvenile Association.

The campaign titled 'Give Way to Emergency Vehicles' will be continued till November 10, said officials of various departments at a Press conference held at the Dubai Officers Club.

The campaign was launched in the presence of Khalifa bin Dray, CEO of Dubai Ambulance Services; Brigadier Omar Al Shamsi, Deputy Director of the General Department of Operations at Dubai Police; Colonel Jassem Khalil Mirza, Director of Security Awareness of the Dubai Police; Firas Belhasa, Director of Al Quoz civil defence station and Ahmed Ali Akhozama of the RTA.

Brigadier Al Shamsi said that the police had taken action against many drivers of offending vehicles in the past years, pointing out that 162 offences were recorded over the last year, and 121 offences in 2014, and 81 violations were recorded during 2013.

He said that the fine for not giving way for emergency vehicles is Dh500 and four black points, indicating that the Federal Traffic Council has recommended to impose harsher penalties on those who don't give way to emergency vehicles.

"Quick response to an accident has utmost importance in saving lives," he added.
