The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said that there is no plan to change or suspend transportation operation within and outside the emirate. However, it said the authority has taken additional precautionary measures to ensure health safety of passengers and its employees and drivers in the wake of coronavirus pandemic. The new measures include the closure of all air-conditioned bus stop shelters in all parts of the emirate to prevent large gathering of commuters at one place.
Engineer Yousef Saleh Al Suwaiji, chairman of RTA, said the authority has undertaken a daily operation wherein public transport, including 4,893 taxis, are sterilised, in coordination with franchise companies . The RTA also sterilises 265 buses after each trip. "One of the important measures is closure of all customer service centers, as well as replacing the biometric attendance system with employee card. The authority has also installed sanitisers and disinfectants in all the corridors, halls and other work sites, in addition to canceling all internal and external activities and programmes. "Work is underway to implement remote functioning for some categories of workers as per the government directives," he pointed out.
Mohamed Al Zaabi, director of RTA's legal affairs department, urged customers to use the official website of the RTA (www.srta.gov.ae) and its app, to take advantage of the electronic and smart services available through them, or call at 600525252 round-the-clock, or 065033333 during official working hours. To communicate with RTA branch in Khor Fakkan, you can call 092371664, while the Kalba branch number is 092770574.
