The UAE has prepared a generation of excellent achievers and leaders who deserve to be celebrated, said His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as he honoured the winners of the Mohammed bin Rashid Government Excellence Award in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

"We believe excellence is an ever-evolving journey, one we can build up on to benefit from the expertise and experiences to devise forward-looking plans and formulate solutions for the challenges that face us. That, in turn, allows us to actively participate in creating a better life for future generations."

The fourth-generation Government Excellence System was made in the UAE, he noted. "It has now gone global, seeing as it is comprehensive, future-focused, and encourages innovation and progress. It is a uniquely Emirati achievement and a role model for governments the world over.

"Today, we honour pioneers of excellence in our government - pioneers who have achieved excellent results, as measured by the Government Excellence System, which tracks and evaluates the work of all government departments."

The UAE, he said, maintains a realist outlook with regards to excellence, "which we do not view as an achievement, but rather a challenge. The achievement is the future that we build for the people of the UAE; we are employing all resources and capacities at our disposal to that end, whereby we are recruiting young, innovative talent, and providing them with the adequate environment to excel."

People are at the very core of government work, he stressed. "Their wellbeing and happiness are the objective and the end goal. That is the main criterion for measuring government excellence."
