Located between two arterial roads of Dubai - Al Khail Road and the Sheikh Zayed Road - Al Quoz area that was previously known for its industrial areas has now become a burgeoning unique mix of art galleries, malls, eateries and warehouse gyms.
Although it is known as Al Quoz Industrial area 1,2,3 and 4, it is actually divided into commercial and residential sections and the USP of the area is its central location and connectivity. While the residential areas lie more towards the northern part of the district, the industrial section is towards the south.
Being one of the oldest manufacturing hubs of Dubai, Al Quoz does look a bit complicated with identical looking streets, dusty roads, auto shops and labour accommodations. But there is a colourful side to it. Al Quoz has also evolved into a vibrant area full of art galleries, performance spaces and family entertainment with cultural district Alserkal Avenue becoming the creative hub.
Alserkal opened up as a group of 20 warehouses in 2007 and has evolved into the city's creative arts and culture hub that is now home to over 60 art, design, retail, dining and creative spaces, set across several warehouses. Alserkal is also home to Mirzam Chocolate - the UAE's first and only bean-to-bar chocolate factory - and The Fridge, a versatile venue that's used for concerts, theatre productions, art exhibitions, classes and workshops throughout the year.

The residential areas are replete with parks, supermarkets and cafes which are populated by Emiratis and Western expats.
One of the most well-known residential localities within Al Quoz is the affordable and family-oriented Al Khail Gate community. A long-time resident of the community, Sana Khan, said: "The best thing about this locality is that it is very well connected. We have about two or three bus stops and a good frequency of buses connect us to every nook and corner of Dubai. We also have an option to take cabs that are easily available. Also we have a community centre that includes salons, gyms, prayer rooms, supermarkets, mosques, schools and also health centres, in addition to a big park with a separate section for children. So all in all, this place is a very safe and family-friendly place."
Another resident of Al Quoz, Farhan, said living in Al Quoz promises easy access to everywhere in Dubai due to its central location and good connectivity, especially for those who do not drive. "There are always kids playing freely outdoors. We are spoilt for choice in terms of convenience of supermarkets, restaurants gyms etc. The only downside I would say is the congestion on roads due to ongoing construction."
Another iconic building of Al Quoz district is the Dubai Bowling Centre that can be easily spotted thanks to its unique exterior that comprises three enormous bowling balls and a pair of imposing castle turrets.

Some nearby malls include Times Square and Oasis Centre malls towards the Sheikh Zayed Road, and Al Quoz Mall, Al Khail Mall and Grand City Mall further in. Noor Islamic Bank is the only metro station in the area and is closest to Times Square Mall.
Must visit places
Al Quoz has a few must-visit places for the residents. The Fridge, a cool music venue, is one of the favourite spots to see local musicians, and occasionally, some big names. The Courtyard comprises a network of boutique stores as well as a popular community theatre while Bounce Dubai trampoline park is where kids love to spend their time. OliOli, the experiential play museum, is the best in edutainment with eight galleries and over 40 exhibits designed by the world's leading educators, artists and development psychologists.
1-Alserkal Avenue
Alserkal Avenue, the most happening place in the cultural arena, opened up as a group of 20 warehouses in 2007 and has evolved into the city's creative arts and culture hub that is now home to over 60 art, design, retail, dining and creative spaces, set across several warehouses. Alserkal is also home to Mirzam Chocolate - the UAE's first and only bean-to-bar chocolate factory.
2-Great connectivity
The connectivity of Al Quoz to most of the places make it a comfortable place for the residents. There are buses connecting most of the places in the city and this makes life easy for the residents, especially for those who do not drive. Cabs are easily available and the Noor Islamic Bank Metro Station is nearby. The area has so many malls nearby, which include Oasis Centre, Times Square, Al Quoz Mall, Al Khail Mall and Grand City Mall.
