Ajman paid parking timings announced

AJMAN — The timing of the paid parking system, to be implemented in Ajman from January 2008, will be from 8am to 2.30pm from Sunday to Thursday, a top official has said.

The parking will be free on Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays, said Shaikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, chairman of the Ajman Department of Municipality and Planning.

“The system will be implemented only in areas near the main roads and the parking lots of government departments. The parking charges will be minimal,” he revealed.

Al Nuaimi added that the objective of the paid parking system was not to make money but to facilitate people visiting government departments to complete formalities.

The Municipality has noticed that the parking lots of government departments are being used mostly by those not visiting the departments, he added.

The Municipality has already placed orders to import advanced paid parking machines to be installed on the main roads, including Shaikh Rashid bin Humaid Road, Shaikh Khalifa Road and the Corniche.

Al Nuaimi said the move was part of Ajman Municipality’s efforts at reducing traffic congestion in the main areas hit by traffic bottlenecks due to improper parking.
