Two men who were convicted of robbing an Abu Dhabi taxi driver at knifepoint have appealed their jail sentence. The Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance had sentenced each of the men to three years in jail after they were found guilty of robbing the cabbie and threatening to hurt him.
Official court documents stated that the Pakistani men were caught after the cabbie complained to the police that they robbed him of cash, including his own money and that of the company, after threatening to hurt him with a knife.
The incident occurred last year after the men hired the Asian taxi driver for a trip to a "quiet location" in the Bani Yas area of Abu Dhabi.
The police had arrested the men after getting information and their descriptions from the cabbie. Investigations revealed that the men took the money from the cabbie and then fled the scene.
It was not clear in court documents how much cash the men stole from the taxi driver. The court also ordered that the men be deported after serving their jail sentences.
The duo have challenged the ruling at the Abu Dhabi Appeals Court, claiming they were "wrongly convicted".
They denied the charges in the court.
The trial was adjourned until January 28.
