A 43-year-old African woman was killed in a run-over accident in Sharjah’s Al Tawoon Bridge on Friday afternoon, the police said.
The pedestrian was on the bridge at around 4.50pm when she was hit by a speeding vehicle driven by an Arab motorist. The police patrols and the national ambulance found her dead on the spot.
Officers at Al Buhairah police station has started a probe to determine the cause of the accident. The driver was taken into police custody for further investigation.
The Sharjah Police’s traffic and patrols department called on the public to follow all traffic rules, including crossing roads only at designated areas. Motorists must also strictly observe all regulations and stick to speed limits at all times.
