Four men stood trial on Wednesday at the Dubai Court of First Instance on charges of kidnapping and forcible robbery.
According to public prosecution records, the four Bangladeshis, aged between 24 and 34, kidnapped a US expat on September 10 after luring him with a low priced massage service. The victim was tricked into accompanying the suspects to a residential apartment, where they intimidated and robbed him of Dh4,000 and his mobile phone.
The incident was reported to Al Rafaa police station.
The complainant, a 56-year-old sales coordinator, said he was walking in Al Rafaa when the suspects approached him. "They offered me a massage for Dh150, which I managed to reduce to Dh100."
He told the prosecutor that he was then taken to a flat where he was pushed and yelled at. "They snatched away my wallet and my mobile phone. One of them snapped my photo. They left after robbing me of Dh 4,000 and my cellphone."
He identified them among other suspects later at the police station.
The next hearing is scheduled for November 7.
