The Ras Al Khaimah Misdemeanours Court has sentenced an Asian woman staff of a travel agency to three months in jail for defrauding 21 Asian passengers.
As per court records, the case dates back to last January when 21 victims, who purchased tickets from the woman, reached the airport to find out that they were conned by her. When checking in at the airport, the passengers discovered that the tickets they bought for a competitive price through a workmate were fake.
The passengers immediately lodged a complaint with the RAK Police against their colleague who bought them the discounted tickets for Dh34,000. But, the colleague said she herself was a victim of the fraud as the tickets she purchased for her family from the same woman were also fake.
The travel agency staff claimed she would give her a discount as per the number of tickets, which she told her colleagues, and they all paid the said amount.
