Al Dhaid Municipality in Sharjah has fined 17 trucks and heavy vehicles for transporting goods and moving furniture without a licence.
Ali Mussbah Al Tunaiji, director of Al Dhaid Municipality, said the vehicles were caught during the recent two-day crackdown on various law violators.
The unlicensed trucks were found transporting items such as clothes, building materials, furniture, toys and electronics, among others. Some of them had expired licences while others were engaging in activities that were not covered by their licence. A total of 143 vehicles were inspected, but 85 per cent of them were found compliant with rules and regulations, Al Tunaiji said.
He added that these inspections will continue throughout the year "as the municipality commits to implementing the highest standards in handling goods and protecting consumers". An awareness drive has also been carried out.
