Barely two months after an Emirati boy drowned in a school pool in Sharjah, another toddler was found dead after he fell into a pool at a hotel apartment flat on Wednesday.
The 18-month old Emirati child, Saif Sultan Al Hasani, had been with his family, who reside in Fujairah, at the hotel in Kuwait when the incident took place while they were on a family vacation for a week.
He had wandered off away from his parents and fallen into the pool at around 12.30pm that afternoon.
They were getting ready to leave the hotel when they realised their son had disappeared.
After alerting the hotel personnel, they found him face down in the adjacent public pool.
Within seconds the child was rescued from the pool and the parents tried in vain to revive him.
As they didn't know the number for the ambulance services, they had to transport their unconscious child to the hospital in their own vehicle which took them 20 minutes to reach.
Later his body was transferred by ambulance to the Kuwaiti government hospital.
No pool attendants or lifeguards were present, nor were there any cameras or proper surveillance at the site.
The father said he would press charges against the hotel management for negligence and lack of safety protocols regarding child safety. He added that the elevator doors open directly to the pool and thus allowed his son to access the area.
