UAE is likely to mark September 21 - a Thursday - as Muharram 1 (the last month of the 1438 Hijri calendar, and the New Year), subject to an official announcement.
With a three-day break likely, it could be an opportunity for many to plan a short trip. If you haven't yet decided where to go and how to plan it quickly, you could choose from some holiday packages.
To help you plan your long weekend, we bring you some budget holiday packages, as announced by Sharjah-based airline Air Arabia.
These are as low as Dh990 per person - flights and hotel stay included.

Special offers up for grabs

UAE airlines had announced special fares for the coming long weekend.
Emirates
Dubai-based Emirates has introduced a special offer, where you can carry 10-15kg extra on economy-class tickets to select destinations. Offer is valid for tickets sold until September 30, 2017, and travel until December 13, 2017.
FlyDubai
FlyDubai is offering 50 per cent discount on economy and business class tickets, and return fares to more than 70 destinations around its network. The sale began on midday, September 13, and will end on September 26 for travel from September 15, 2017 to October 27, 2018.
Cebu Pacific
Passengers flying from Dubai to Manila on Cebu Pacific who pre-purchase baggage allowance of 40 kilograms will get an additional 25 kilograms, completely free-of-charge*-  that's a total of 65 kilograms of check-in baggage, equivalent to the weight of a typical 'balikbayan box'.
