The Ministry of Public Works has renovated nearly 55 per cent of the Shaikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Mualla Road in Umm Al Quwain.
A senior official said the scheme is part of the ministry’s infrastructure developments projects being carried out in collaboration with local authorities.
Ayman Mahmoud, deputy head of the roads section at the Department of Planning and Survey, UAQ, said the critical road extends from the Ruler’s castle to King Faisal Road.
About 2.5km of the 6.8km road has been built while about 2.7km has been asphalted.
In addition, nearly 15 per cent of the new 4km road connecting the Shaikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Mualla Road and the Union Road has been completed.
The ministry is also developing two roads in the Falaj Al Mualla area. The Naga Road has been nearly completed as well as 10 per cent of the Shariah Road.
The Ruler’s Court roundabout, extending over 12,000sqft, is being developed as well. The improvement works are expected to be done by the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The department, in cooperation with the Traffic and Patrols Department, UAQ Police, is planning road diversions and alternative routes to ease the traffic flow.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works is building a dental care centre in Umm Al Quwain to replace the old one, which can no longer accommodate the growing numbers of patients.
The Dh24 million project, being built in the Salma area close to the Shaikh Khalifa Hospital, is expected to be completed by July 2015.
The project extends over 7,300sqm with the main building occupying 3,000sqm.
The new dental centre will have a ground floor and two levels, along with external facilities and parking space for 60 cars.
The ground floor will have six dental clinics, two of them for children. In addition, there are three operation rooms, an x-ray room, a pharmacy, medical store, conference room, dental lab as well as separate waiting areas for men and woman.
It will also have a mosque.
