The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the construction of internal roads in nine residential communities, stretching 193km, at a cost of about Dh400 million from Hatta to Al Quoz 2, 3 and 4, Khawaneej 1, and Barsha 1, 2 and 3.
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director, said these newly completed projects are part of the first and second batch of the five-year plan (2012-2016) costing Dh1 billion endorsed by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, covering the pavement of internal roads in several residential districts of Dubai. Completed this year are the construction of internal roads in six residential communities including pavement of roads in Al Quoz 3 at a cost of Dh21.732 million; construction of roads extending 8km with a width of 7 metres for collector roads and 6.5 metres for local roads; lighting works, rainwater drainage services, traffic signs, and road markings.
In February, the RTA completed the construction of internal roads at Al Barsha 1, 2 and 3 situated between the Shaikh Zayed Road to the East, Al Khail Road to the west, Umm Suqeim Road to the north and Street 331 to the south. The project, which cost Dh174.5 million included the pavement of internal roads along with lighting works stretching 116 km. It also included the construction of new roads extending 63km and improvements of existing roads extending 53km.
In the same month, it concluded the pavement of internal roads Al Quoz 2 at a cost of Dh37.392 million covering the pavement of roads extending 11km, parking slots, rainwater and sewage drainage networks, lighting works, road marking, traffic signals, and all safety means for road users.
The RTA also completed the pavement of internal roads extending 6km in Hatta community at a cost of Dh23 million,” elaborated Al Tayer. Pavement of internal roads at Al Khawaneej 1, extending 38km at a cost of Dh100 million and the pavement of (main and local) unpaved internal roads in the rest of Al Khawaneej residential district 1 (District 281) was completed in January this year.
More roads coming up
Al Tayer said internal road projects at six residential areas are under way. He said construction of roads at Al Warqaa 1, 2, 3 and 4 is expected to be completed by this year, while construction of internal roads in Muhaisnah 2, Barsha South 1, and collector roads at Barsha 2 are set for completion in the first half of next year. Also, the RTA will release a tender for constructing internal roads at Mamzer, Nahda 1 and Oud Mateena 2 by the last quarter of this year, he added. — lily@khaleejtimes.com
