The Dh3.4 million project, according to DoT, is an initiative that comes as part of its endeavour to improve the level of traffic safety and reduce serious crashes in the capital.

“The system was developed by the Traffic Safety team at DoT in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Police to address the department’s need for scientific engineering analysis capabilities to assess accidents data and information related to road safety,” a statement from the department said on Sunday.

The solution, DoT added, was developed by global expert the British Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), an independent consultancy and research institute that specialises in the transport sector. The new system aims at adopting international best practices in the management of road safety programmes, technical analysis, study of traffic safety data and assessment of information such as traffic density information; speed data and road assets (such as signboards, bridges, underpasses and barriers).

It will also utilise social data to identify the nature and indicate population segments for each residential sector, which will help in identifying trends, patterns and predate location of crashes. These evaluations will contribute to the development of various solutions in order to identify the main causes of accidents, identify and implement appropriate counter measures in the fields of engineering and legislation, education and training.

The system will provide specialists in the DoT with relevant data, information and tools to take appropriate decisions to address traffic safety issues. These tools will offer frequent accidents site management capabilities, help save time, costs, and avoid less efficient traffic safety solutions.
