One firm told to pay Dh30,000 for not complying with the regulations
Spanning over 10 hectares opposite Abu Dhabi Golf Club and adjacent to the northern Abu Dhabi-Dubai main highway, the new depot was recently approved by the Executive Council as part of Dh1.5 billion worth of various infrastructure projects.
DoT Public Transport Division Director Hashim Al Hashimi said: “The approval by the Abu Dhabi Executive Council to build a world-class bus depot bears witness to the rapidly-growing demand on bus services as being a sustainable, safe, cost-effective and almost round-the-clock available transportation option.”
The depot, which is to be operational by the end of 2015, will have a facility that accommodates 480 buses, providing them with fuel and cleaning, as well as integrated maintenance services for the DoT’s 550 buses.
According to the DoT, the suggested design of the project had been “meticulously considered”, with capacity to accommodate further buses in the future, an adherence to Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standards, and the ability to smoothly reach all the areas of Abu Dhabi, while being located away from residential areas.
“The bus depot project, when operational, will redefine the bus service sector in Abu Dhabi as it will provide a wide spectrum of benefits to both existing and future bus fleets, such as a one-stop shop for bus maintenance and servicing facility that will be built as per world-class standards and environment-friendly benchmarks,” Al Hashimi said.
