According to a senior official, 170 new bus stops are to be installed in 2013 in the second stage of the project, which will help provide better shuttle service to the public.
Abdullah Al Zari, Director-General of Sharjah Transport, said the five-stage scheme, to cover all parts of Sharjah, is aimed at developing the infrastructure of public transport in the emirate.
“The 125 bus stops completed are located in Al Qaraen, Maliha Road, Al Falah, Al Azra, Al Falaj, Al Ramtha, Al Suwaihat, Al Dasman, Al Abar, Al Yashi, Al Rifaa and Al Talaea areas.”
Warning against the abuse of the new bus stops by private vehicles, Al Zari said: “Should any motorist abuse any of the stops in parking, he shall be strictly fined by the Sharjah Traffic Police.”
Urging the people to use public transport, Al Zari said that is good for all, particularly the environment. “Though Sharjah Transport spares no effort in developing its services, some people still lack the culture of using public transport.”
The buses in service are up to international standards when it comes to safety and convenience; they are all fully air-conditioned, with TV screens and separate sections for families, ladies and special needs commuters,” he said.
Adding, Al Zari said the Customer Service Centre can be reached round the clock at toll free number: 700067000. “All bus schedules are available on Sharjah Transport website: www.mowasalat.ae.”
