In the boys’ final, Jannis defeated Italy’s Marco Porcu 6-3, 6-3.
The No 1 seed from Germany, who is ranked 177 in the world for under-18, showed his superiority by not dropping a set in the whole tournament.
Jannis had too much firepower from the serve and controlled the match with his forehand, putting the Italian under pressure at every opportunity. This was Kahlke’s second tournament win in a row after winning last week in Abu Dhabi.
However, Kahlke will not follow most of the other players on tour that are travelling to Oman to compete at the next tournament in Muscat as he is returning home to Germany to work on his game.
The girls’ final was an all-Russian affair. With the ominous names of Ksenija and Anastasia Tokareva, this final was highly anticipated as both players had similar rankings of 362 and 375 in the world respectively.
Unfortunately, the rankings were the only things that were close in the match. Sharifova, who is only 14 years of age, dominated right from the first game and never looked back taking the match with a quick 6-1, 6-2 victory. With a clear and deliberate tactic from her coach to move into the court on all short balls and to take high balls out of the air on the full which is called “steal drive volleying” Sharifova’s execution of her game was impeccable totally disrupting Tokareva’s rhythm and concentration.
