England declare second innings at 517-1 before tea

England declared at 517-1 in their second innings on the fifth and final day of the first Ashes test against Australia on Monday.

Australia trail by 296 runs and will face a scheduled 41 overs before the close of play.

Alastair Cook was 235 not out alongside Jonathan Trott, who had made 135, when England skipper Andrew Strauss declared midway through the second session.

Their unbeaten partnership of 329 was the highest by English batsmen in a test in Australia.
