Waqar backs Inzamam as chief selector

Waqar Younis may have relinquished his position as Pakistan coach in bitter circumstances but it seems the cricket board is finally implementing the changes to the national setup the former captain had demanded.
The aftermath of Pakistan's disastrous World Twenty20 campaign saw Waqar and captain Shahid Afridi stepping down from their posts, while the selection committee was disbanded.
And in the latest development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has approached batting great Inzamam-ul-Haq to head the selection committee. It is a move which has been hailed by Waqar, for it was part of the long list of recommendations he made to improve the game in the country following the 2015 World Cup.
And on Friday, Waqar took to Twitter to voice his approval for Inzamam.
"Hearing Inzamam coming as chief selector. V good news. Glad PCB now listening to my 2015 recommendations. #BetterLateThanNever," Waqar said.
Inzamam, who is on a two-year contract with Afghanistan which ends in 2017, is believed to be considering the offer but it is unclear he would sever his deal with team which displayed great promise at the 2016 World T20.
Some reports suggest that Inzamam could also be offered the position of interim coach, and former wicketkeeper Rashid Latif the post of chief selector.
But Waqar said it would be unwise to put in stop gap solutions. "Bad decision to consider interim coach. Still have plenty of time b4 Eng Tour. Need vision for future planning #PlanAhead," Waqar tweeted. - Agencies
