The sports community in the UAE suffered a setback with the sudden demise of photographer Salim Sanghati early Friday morning.

Employed as the official photographer of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) for over two decades, Salim had created a niche for himself not only among his colleagues, but was in fact a popular face among the sports fraternity.

Salim was always at hand to cover major International cricket tournaments organised by the International Cricket Council. His works also included working for the Emirates Cricket Board, coverage of the Pakistan Super League, T10 Cricket League, Afghanistan Premier League and UIM Grand Prix of Sharjah.

Small in stature, Salim, always wore a large smile and was big-hearted in more than one way. In case someone missed out a major event, Salim bhai (brother) was the solution.

Apart from his ready to serve attitude, Salim's art of mimicry and singing  never let a dull moment seep in. A talent which made him a much sought out person on the various cricket tours of UAE-based academies.

It was this love for sports, Salim encouraged his daughter Samiya Salim Sanghati to represent UAE in the women's cricket as a prominent left-handed pacer.

Salim originally from India, Mumbai, leaves behind his wife Fatima, and three daughters - Mariyam, Samiya and Soniya.

Sports which has taken a back seat due to Covid-19 will make its presence felt no sooner than later. But the void of this smiling lensman marshalling beyond the boundary, will be hard to fill.

Rest in peace Salim bhai!!
