Darren Sammy is waiting with bated breath to begin his partnership with Robin Singh for Northern Warriors.
This is a partnership that could help newcomers Northern Warriors taste success in the T10 League, says Sammy.
The West Indian, who is the only captain to have won two World T20 titles, will lead Northern Warriors in the tournament's second season while former India all-rounder Singh will be the team's head coach.
"Robin has been part of cricket for a long time. He has played the game for India and was very successful at it," Sammy told Khaleej Times.
Singh's West Indies connections appeal to Sammy, the most famous man in Saint Lucia. "You know Robin was born in Trinidad, so he is West Indian as well. He is from the West Indies and he played for India. So, he is the typical West Indian," he smiled.
"Of course, he has had so much success as a coach with Mumbai Indians. Also, his team (Kerala Kings) won the first edition of the T10 League. So, it's great to have him as the head coach of Northern Warriors," Sammy said.
"I am looking forward to working with him for the first time. With his experience and strategy, I am confident our team will do very well under him. Obviously, our goal will be to win the tournament," he added.
Sammy then doffed his hat to Singh for his efforts to develop youngsters.
"The work he is doing here with his academy in Dubai, it's wonderful. I was at the opening ceremony. He continues to give back to the sport," he said.
"That's the beauty of playing sport. You are not forgetting the development of young players. Kudos to him and hopefully now this partnership with him as coach and myself as captain could help Northern Warriors become a successful team in the T10 League."
Singh, on the other hand, said Northern Warriors could gain from Sammy's experience.
"As a coach, you need to be evolving, just like a player needs to evolve. It's important to get different ideas from different captains or people that you work with from different nationalities," Singh told Khaleej Times.
"For example, Darren is here. He has won T20 World Cups twice. That's no mean achievement. No other captain has done it.
"Besides, he has played in all formats of the game across the globe. So, with his kind of experience, it also helps me to put things in the right perspective."
Singh is excited about the prospects of his youngsters in Northern Warriors.
"I love seeing young cricketers grow and make it to the top. We have a few young guys in Northern Warriors team who are really good. I have lot of faith in their ability," he said.
