Jorge Valdivia's Al Wahda debut will have to wait a little while longer with coach Javier Aguirre confirming that the Chilean international will not figure in the Arabian Gulf Cup on Friday night.
The Clarets take on Al Fujairah in the Cup competition at the Al Nahyan Stadium and the Mexican coach said that Valdivia will not play on the night as there was still some paper work that needed to be sorted out. He also added that Valdivia was not ready as he arrived only a week ago and was yet to get up to speed. "We have been forced to make changes to the line-up because some players are unavailable because of international duty. Also, Valdivia will not play because there is still some paper work that needs to arrive from his former club Palmeiras. Even if it arrives before the game, I feel Valdivia is not yet up to full readiness for the game," Aguirre said.
The 31-year-old Valdivia only arrived last Friday after completing his contract with Palmeiras. He was officially unveiled by the club on Sunday. Former Al Ain playmaker Valdivia is likely to make his debut on September 12 when Al Wahda host strong contenders Al Shabab in the Arabian Gulf League at the Al Nahyan Stadium.
With Chile set to play Paraguay in an international friendly at the Estadio Nacional on September 6, Valdivia is likely to be away when Al Wahda travel to Dibba Al Fujairah for the second round of the Arabian Gulf Cup on September 5.
