Gemini Arabians are assured of a place in the semifinals of the Masters Champions League T20 tournament after registering their third successive win.
Half centuries from captain Virender Sehwag and the in-form Kumar Sangakkara propelled Gemini Arabians to 190 for 4 from their allotted 20 overs against Capricorn Commanders at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday night.
In reply the Commanders, after a good start, stuttered and stumbled to 180 for 8 to lose by 10 runs.
Gemini won the toss and Sehwag didn't hesitate to take first strike. The skipper was on the ball from the word go, blasting three maximums and seven boundaries for his 27-ball 59. Sangakkara was more severe on the Commanders bowlers hitting them for five towering sixes and three fours during his knock of 65 from 40 balls.
Brad Hodge chipped in with 29 from 25 balls with two sixes and an equal number of fours.
Ashwell Prince and Andrew Symonds gave Capricorn a good start with 60 coming in five overs. Symonds looked in a hurry blasting two sixes and three fours for his 30 from 14 balls. However, Kyle Mills, who until then faced the stick from the Australian, had the last laugh by getting him bowled with with a slower delivery.
And once Prince and Rizwan Cheema followed Symonds back in the pavilion it was all over bar the cheering for the partisan Capricorn supporters.
Tightening the noose was Saqlain Mushtaq (3-0-9-1) and Muutiah Muralitharan (4-0-29-3) as the rest of the Capricorn batsmen threw in the towel.
