Former India physio John Gloster has said that there will be no compromise on fitness when it comes to picking the players at the Abu Dhabi T10 League draft and added it won't be based on temperament, skill sets and technique alone.
Gloster, who is the physio for the Delhi Bulls franchise, is part of the back-room staff, headed by coach Stephen Fleming.
"You have to look at how this game has changed in terms of the physicality of this game," Gloster exclusively told the Khaleej Times on Tuesday.
"Part of what we do when we select these players, we just don't look at temperament, look at skill sets and technique, we have to look at the physical side of this game. So, injury history becomes a big part of our selection policy. Physical fitness is a non-negotiable in the modern form of the game. And players know that. When we select now, if they are not fit, if they haven't proven their fitness in recent months, then they will not be considered. The game has moved forward," he added.
The Australian said that with such a new format at their doorstep, it is time for everyone to reinvent themselves.
"For us, it gives us the opportunity every year, we talked about learning new things, but also about reinventing ourselves every year as well. And that's just not reinventing the squad, it is also reinventing the approach, the support network, the ecosystem, everything around it, is reinvented, every year. We have the responsibility to take this game to the next level," said Gloster.
