The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) on Tuesday announced the launch of its 'Sports Strategic Plan in Dubai 2016 - 2021', in Dubai.
Attending the event to present the overall perspectives and guidelines for the new set of plans and its implementation for the next five years under the DSC umbrella, were the council's Mattar Al Tayer, vice chairman; Saeed Hareb, secretary general; and Mariam Al Hammady, president, Strategic Planning Committee.
Initiating the session, Al Tayer said: "His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, is a leader who strives hard to attain a better future for his people; and along with Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, have given us all a long term vision of the UAE and Dubai.
"Sports being an integral part of our future, has been given a big boost with the establishment of the Dubai Sports Council which now is entering the phase of designing and coming out with a new strategy for the next five-years till 2021."
Mariam in her introduction of the guidelines set for the 2016-21 strategy, said: "The 2016-21 strategy plan will devise pillars from the UAE's and Dubai's overall plans."
With just a short time away from the next edition of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Awards, the 2016-21 strategy launch on Monday was of significance. The first of its kind in the world, the awards was set up to inspire and award creativity in the field of sports and athletics. The awards have three categories that include local, regional and international creative works in the field.
"We are going into a first phase of acquiring a data study base based on facts and figures including the valued suggestions of the residents and all the other sectors before finalising the programme for the next five years," said Hareb.
"Look at the Dubai International Sports Conference held last week during which time the prestigious Soccer Gobal Awards night was organised. It was one of the biggest conferences of its kind in the world.
The ranking system we have devised to get the five-star touch to each and every event and grassroot programme is just one of the very few points in a big list of quality improvement moves we have stuck to always and we will continue to do so under the guidelines of Shaikh Mohammed and Shaikh Hamdan."
Hareb added: "Take for example the next rounds of Asian and regional sports events here, it will be a good testing ground for our already established status of being the region's leading sports hub. Our strategy will hinge on the overall plans of the UAE and Dubai. Shaikh Mohammed has specifically instructed us on the five-star quality we have to main as organisers and also told us not to be only engrossed in the winning or losing ascpects."
"The new strategy till 2021 will encompass all hopes and aspirations of the sports sector that is inspired by the holistic vision of Shaikh Mohammed. All the residents are invited to participate in our initial fact finding mission with the aim to improve the standards and also for them to suggest ways to get more and more people into community recreation for the health of everyone," Hareb said.
