Delhi Private School-Dubai (DPS-D) defeated Our Own English High School-Sharjah (Our Own-S) 56-47 in a well contested final of the 26th NIMS Sharjah Trophy Inter-School Basketball Tournament, organised by New Indian Model School-Sharjah (NIMS-S).
DPS-D led the first quarter 12-9 with prolific scorer Hanan Nissar and the leading schools playmaker cum point guard Ishan Shoukath dominating the show for DPS.
Our Own-S came back strongly in the second quarter to sit 17-13 in front before gaining a 26-25 advantage by the time the half time hooter was sounded. Both sides fought for supremacy early in the third quarter before DPS went ahead 13 against 11. After the end of the third quarter, DPS led 38-37. The match went neck-n-neck in the first five minutes of the last quarter, but in the heat of the game, Our Own-S committed unforced errors and DPS-D capitalised on the situation to increase their lead in the last part of the quarter.
Nisar top scored for DPS with 34 points followed by Shoukath who came up with a final 13-point individual tally. For Our Own-S, Vysakh Alungal and Sherin Kurisumkal helped themselves to 16 points each. Nisar was adjudged the Best Player of the Tournament and Alunkal was given the Player of the Final trophy. Host NIMS-S's Ibrahim Abdul Sathar won the Most Promising Player award.
Earlier in the semifinals, Pristine Private School-Dubai pushed DPS-D all the way, before going down 61-64 as Nisar 26 and Ishan 21 stood tall for the winners. Leonardo excelled for Pristine with a massive haul of 45 points. In the second semifinal, Our Own, Sharjah got the better of NIMS-Sharjah 59-31.
