Amir Khan insists he's not sweet on a bout with 'Sugar' Shane Mosley, with the British boxer adamant he stands to gain nothing from fighting "an old man" well past his prime.
Mosley tweeted on Monday that he'd step into the ring with Khan and goaded the pugilist from Bolton by adding boisterously: "Anyone who wants these hands can get it. Everyone knows I will shatter Khan's jaw."
Khan though is decidedly less enthusiastic though about the prospect of facing a 43-year-old veteran, who has lost three of his last five fights since coming off second best against Mayweather Jnr back in May 2010.
Khan also dismissed Mosley's tweet on the micro-blogging site, RT-ing it with a somewhat indifferent 'Haha' in reply.
"Shane Mosley is too old now," said 'King Khan,' who himself is on a five-fight winning streak following consecutive defeats to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia in December 2011 and July 2012 respectively.
"He is a name, but he brings nothing to the table for me. If I beat him, people are going to say: 'You were meant to beat him anyway. He's an old man,' so you cannot win."
Another fight that has been bandied around for the Olympic silver medallist is a domestic dust-up with Sheffield's Kell Brook.
That tussle has the potential to rival the popularity of Carl Froch's two bouts with George Groves in the fullness of time.
But, in order for it to do so, Brook needs to come up against more credible opponents in Khan's eyes and build the all-British battle up to the sporting spectacle it deserves to be.
"I think that's a fight that can happen," explained the 28-year-old, who cited their different "levels" as the reason why that fight hasn't happened as yet.
"I've fought the likes of (Marcos), Maidana, (Timothy) Bradley, (Lamont) Peterson and (Zab) Judah. I'm fighting all of these top guys, whereas he is fighting guys like Jo Jo Dan - they should have called him 'No No Dan' to be honest with you - and Frankie Gavin. They're fights he knows he is going to win.
"He's got a world title, but - then again - I'm left wondering why isn't this guy proving himself by fighting these top names and beating them?
"In doing that, it would only make our fight even bigger. I want him to go out there and beat the likes of Bradley and Maidana and build a name for himself, so the fight is not only big in England but around the world."
Brook and Mosley have emerged as alternatives to a much-heralded bout with Mayweather, who is reportedly no longer interested in the fight having grown tired of Khan's relentless taunting.
The former two-time world champion sees the prolonged impasse altogether differently nonetheless.
"Mayweather has made his mind up that he doesn't want to fight me because I think he really believes that Amir Khan will give him the biggest problems of his career," Khan stated.
"With my speed, movement, power, explosiveness and timing, it's something that he just doesn't want. The fight has been talked about for three years now and he's simply never wanted it.
"I've agreed to it, but he hasn't so I think he's just running scared. He is fighting guys who he knows he can beat."
A more makeable match-up right now would appear to be with Manny Pacquiao here in the emirate, with the large Filipino and Pakistani communities in Dubai and beyond likely to lap up a head-to-head showdown between two energetic, engaging fighters.
"It would be box office because styles make fights and we're both explosive and exciting to watch," Khan added.
"There would be fireworks and it would be an amazing fight. It's a great storyline too; we used to train together and have the same trainer (Freddie Roach).
"What a pay-per-view that would make. That really would be a great one."
