Dubai's Al Ahli beat Al Jazira of Abu Dhabi 2-1 at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo to lift the one-match Arabian Gulf Super Cup, late Tuesday night.
In the showdown between the 2015-16 Arabian Gulf League champions (Al Ahli) and the President's Cup winners (Al Jazira),soccer was at its best between the UAE soccer powerhouses.
Al Jazira's Eid gift from Mohammed Fawzi and a penalty by Rodrigo Lima gave the Red Knights their sweet success at the beginning of the season.
Thiago Neves snatched a late goal for Al Jazira as they desperately tried to pierce the Al Ahli defence which stood firm after the Ahli troopers had done a remarkable job on a hot and humid Cairo night.
For the Red Knights stationed at Qusais in Dubai, this was their fourth Arabian Gulf Super Cup triumph, making them the most successful squad in the Cup's history since the inaugural event in the 2008-2009 season.
